Reddit post - How would you create a World of Warcraft type style in Substance Painter?

I have a few assets a need to texture for a University assignment and I would like to do it in a World of Warcraft style. Does anyone know how I would achieve something like this and this?

It kind of goes without telling that you'll need to use flat colors, somewhat, and create stylized materials in Designer. Or use existing ones. With a stylized wood material, and another stylized metal material, this should be easy. Cracks, etc. could be easily baked. Use the high-2-low bakes to create soft highlights in edges, etc, don't abuse grunges, some soft AO also might help, the stylized metal should be doable just in painter, with generators and some painting.

I would suggest checking out http://www.somuchmonsters.com/somuchdiffuse for stylized texturing. I've been using it and it helps speed up the hand-painted process by delivering nice base colours with good overall lighting. If you want to create handpainted textures like those in WoW, you should look at 3D Coat. This is what Blizzard use for WoW and other games that use that handpainted style (Heroes of the Storm, Diablo, etc.). If you don't want to fork out all that money for a specialised software application, you could try using Blender's texture painting tool.
